KEVIN ROMAR OFFICIALLY ON FILAMENT BRAND
Just a week or so after posting a picture of Filament brand shoes on his Instagram page, Kevin Romar officially joins the team. The announcement comes with a short introduction clip of a few tricks he and the Filament filmer put together. Kevin gets a perfect nollie inward heel rewind on the famous 9 stair in Santa Monica to end it off. With such a short intro clip, we should expect more footage soon.

BASTIEN SALABANZI AT THE DIAMOND PLAZA!
Bastien rips the new Diamond Plaza in this new clip from Street League Skateboarding. He's still got all the full cab and double flip variations that earned him his fame early on in his career. Looks like he learned a new one too, with a perfect double flip backlip to fakie at (0:37). Don't call it a comeback. Congrats to Primitive's newest pro, Bastien Salabanzi!

RYAN DECENZO CRUISES HUNTINGTON BEACH!
In the newest addition to the "A to B" segment from Ride Channel, Ryan Decenzo cruises around Huntington Beach. Starting from his little backyard skatepark, Ryan skates through the town, leaving no ledge or firehydrant un-skated. The Canadian does a high switch tailslide at 0:50 then continues his line with a barrage of flatground tricks. A to B had proven one of Ride's most popular series, filmed and edited by Colin H. Clark.

KEVIN ROMAR FOR FILAMENT?
Its been only a month or so since Kevin Romar officially left the Supra team along with Nick Tucker. Kevin posted this photo on his Instagram recently, maybe hinting at a new sponsorship. Filament is a relatively new brand, but is under great management by DVS co-founder Tim Gavin. With little over a year in operation, Filament brand has added team members rather meticulously. Kevin just might be next to join the squad.

CYRIL JACKSON IS PRO!
Since joining the Baker Boys in 2011, Cyril Jackson has earned his spot as one of the most talked about amateurs, until today. The former 1031 rider was given his own pro model Baker board just a few hours ago. Before joining Baker, Cyril had put out quite a few VX parts, earning Youtube props for his unique style. The Boss himself didn't sleep on Cyril's potential as the 1031 brand began to dwindle, promptly adding him to the team roster. Since then, the Ohio native has become a familiar face in the Skate Tank and even earned a shoe collaboration with DC. With one of the more talked about parts in the Bake and Destroy video, Cyril talent's have finally payed off.

TREVOR COLDEN IN DOWNTOWN LA!
A few hours ago the official Youtube of Street League posted a two minute clip of one of the contest's fan favorites, Trevor Colden, cruising the streets of Los Angeles. This segment is easily relatable to anyone who has skated a large city as Colden stops to listen to the tunes of a street drummer and is teased by security (still got the hardflip though). It's definitely refreshing to see Street League post something other than Nyjah highlights on their page. The League's 5th year begins this May.

TORE BEVIVINO ALL EYES ON
Watch it here http://theberrics.com/all-eyes-on-tore-bevivino/
Tore shows he has that proper switch back tail just like the Love Park legends before him at (1:00). Sabotage filmer Brian Panebianco has a cameo right afterwards with a long 5-0 switch crook. Tore basically filmed a whole video part for this Berrics segment, hitting Municipal and Love Park at night. One of his most impressive tricks had to be the switch 5-0 360 on one of the ledges over a gap at Love (3:31). The best thing about this video is that one of most infamous skate plazas still has some life. Despite rumors of the park being shut down this year, this Philly crew skates it with no problem, adding to its legacy.

CHRIS CHANN FULL PART
Chris Chann, the Youtuber mostly known for his flatground antics, dropped a part late Sunday night. His channel grew exponentially in the last year due to his regularly scheduled segments. Although he has been skating for quite a few years now, this is Chris' first full part. For Youtube street part standards, this part is exceptional to say the least.
Chris shows he is wizard on ledges as well as the flatground as he does a switch flip frontside tailslide 270 on a ledge skated in Girl and Chocolate's "Pretty Sweet" (0:51). This trick was one of the most surprising as only a few current pros can land them consistently. Later on Chris hits one of the better known Los Angeles ledges over a gap with a switch tailslide 270 heelflip. This clip and a few others seem to be self filmed with a tripod. The ledge slaughter doesn't stop as the 21 year old hits the LA version of Love Park, JKWON, with a hardflip backside nosegrind revert. Chris ends his part with a few forward flip variations, one into and out of a manual and finally one into a backside nosegrind on a ledge. Overall, this was a solid first part for anyone, even for a Youtube star.

WILL FYOCK BANGIN!
The used-to-be "Lil' Will" is now all grown up. Although its been years since his Youtube stardom when he beat countless pros in games of skate, Will hasn't slowed down. Instead Will has been picking up sponsors like Expedition One, Etnies, Gold, and LRG. At 18, Fyock has already had clips in FKD's Park Project and other shorts. Will is set to have clips in new Gold Goons video also, premiering February 11th. Just last year Will was invited to the Berrics' BATB 7 in which he he made it to the second round after knocking off Chaz Ortiz. He seems to be a Berrics' favorite from the group of "Joes" as he got himself a Bangin' segment on the site today.
You can watch it here http://theberrics.com/bangin-will-fyock-011214/
In the Bangin' Will does a backside 180 nosegrind switch 360 shove out, a trick rarely seen. In Kayo Corp fashion, Will shows viewers he has no problem with manuals as he does a quick switch heel fakie manual fakie double flip out. He ends his clip with a perfect switch tre flip on the Rincon 4 block recreation. His Gold Goons footage should be something to look out for.

BLACK NINJA 2015 HIGHLIGHTS!
One of my favorite Youtubers, Black Ninja, came out a full part highlighting his skating in 2014. In 2014 Ninja grew his channel exponentially, even quitting his day job in order to have ample time to expand his fan base. Last year was a big success for the Las Vegas native as he began uploading more frequently and doubled his subscriber count from the previous year. Black Ninja's humor and antics really give his channel a distinct personality, something that is necessary for internet success. With the addition of a GoPro, Ninja's channel looks to face even further growth in 2015.
Of the most memorable clips in the skatepark part was the line at (0:33) where Ninja does a feeble to fakie on a quarterpipe and then comes off a hip and switch 5-0s a bump to hubba. A little more than 10 seconds later he brings back a classic trick with a backside salad to fakie (0:46). Ninja later starts a line with a long nollie 5-0 grind and then 5050s a flatbar to one foot across the skatepark into a backside blunt on a quarterpipe. Another trick that stood out in this part was a backside tail backside flip out on the steep miniramp at his house. To end the part Ninja does a perfect kickflip frontside noseslide on a yellow handrail at Woodward West. This part really showed how great 2014 was for him, with a song to match his lifestyle. Good stuff Ninja!

NYJAH HUSTON x INTERVIEW MAGAZINE
Nyjah Huston's magazine coverage history goes way back to his days as a dread-headed 9 year old. Recently, the Street League champion has broken out from solely skateboarding magazines and has received interviews and photoshoots from lifestyle periodicals. With a section from GQ magazine last year and an interview with Interview Magazine just days ago, Nyjah seems to be expanding his fan base outside of the skate realm. This could mark a pivotal point in his career as only a select few skateboarders have been able to garner attention from fans outside of the sport. At only 20, Nyjah has already had a 10 year career that many can only dream of. The Davis, California native looks to continue his large list of accomplishments in 2015.
In the article Nyjah talks about his rise to the top at such a young age and his potential to win Thrasher's Skater of the Year award. To read the full article, go here

ELEMENT ADDS THREE NEW AM's TO THE TEAM!
Just two days ago, the Element brand announced the addition of Dominick Walker, Ethan Loy, and Chris Colbourn to the team. Needless to say, this revamp of the amateur squad was long over due. Back in 2012, Element released a full video starring just their amateur squad, titled "Future Nature". Since then, a majority of the riders in the film have earned professional status from the company. The brand attempts to rekindle the light on their amateur riders with this addition of three heavy hitters.
Dominick Walker, long time friend of Element pro Nyjah Huston, was one of the flow riders selected. Although not well known before his destruction in 2014's Thrasher King of the Road, Dominick is not a new face. Along with the ability to tackle some of the biggest rails, the 22 year-old has an extensive Damn Am history dating back to 2009. Dominick and his talents look to fit in snugly with Element.
The youngest of the riders chosen to be one of Element's new amateurs is Ethan Loy. Brother of Birdhouse's newest pro David Loy, Ethan has followed in his elder's skateboarding footsteps. With a Transworld Video Check Out and a mini Thrasher part last year, Ethan has already put Element wood to good use. At 19, Ethan looks to become one of the younger big name amateur skateboarders, with support from Spitfire and Independent.
Chris Colbourn blew up with his "Cut and Dry" video part presented by Transworld late in 2013. With bangers like backside 360 on the LA triple set, Chris was seen as one to watch for in 2014. Chris is one of the few east coasters on the Element team, and brings a new style with him. The lesser known of the three ams, the Vermont native has been given a great opportunity to shine for the Element brand in 2015.
I'm expecting a video part or montage from the three coming soon. Very hyped for Dominick in particular as he has been on the Element flow program for years,

BATB 8!
The Berrics' continuous flow of content has allowed the website to prosper as a skateboarding hub. Their main event, Battle at the Berrics, is a contest that is simplistic but so perfect. Instead of skating giant rails and stairs, the site pins top pros and amateurs against each other in one of the most basic forms of skateboarding, flatground. Its hard to believe that its been over 7 years since the first BATB. Recently, the Berrics created a new poll where followers can vote on who they want to see in the contest. The Berrics' innovation as a hub for the skate community has garnered the attention of ESPN and even other big investors. Personally, I look forward to seeing the new BATB, even if I have to settle for the webcast during finals night.

BASTIEN SALABANZI JOINS PRIMITIVE!
A new year means a new team member for Paul Rodriguez' Primitive Skateboarding brand. Announcing his board company in April of last year, Paul has made efforts to form a progressive team from scratch. The news of the addition of Bastien to the team comes just two months after fellow rider, Nick Tucker, became the first professional for the brand. At 29, Salabanzi has already had an epic career. Turning pro for Flip Skateboards in 2000 and being a main star in the "Sorry" videos, Bastien's legacy was born at the young age of 15. With was seemed like a 5 year hiatus with no sponsorship during the mid-2000s, Bastien has seen the ups and downs of professional skateboarding. More recently, the Frenchman has been spotted skating Paul's park on the regular during every trip to the States. It only seemed right that he would join the Primitive team as he left the European company "Jart" in late 2012 and has been sponsor-less since. Bastien's introduction to the pro team certainly gives new-found promise to his legacy in skateboarding.

JEREMY LEABRES NOW PRO!
The Tumyeto brand is already making power moves early in 2015 with the recent acquisition of Alien Workshop and now Jeremy Leabres' ascension into the pro ranks. The 20 year old is Toy Machine's newest addition to the pro team. With backing from Emerica shoes, Jeremy was able to shine in 2013 and again in 2014. Bringing the hammers in Emerica's "Made" and his more recent Thrasher part, "The re-education of Jeremy Leabres", the Riverside native has already made his mark. Just 5 years after his sponsor tape was approved by the chiefs at Tumyeto, Jeremy has been given the green light. Leabres seems to be a fan favorite on the Toy Machine team with his relaxed style and destruction of just about every kinked rail. On a certain kinked rail a few months back, Jeremy laid it all out with this sick Frontside Bluntslide and landed himself a Thrasher cover. Along with the cover, Jeremy earned a good chunk of magazine coverage in 2014. Jeremy Leabres' jump to pro seems quick, but well deserved.

ALIEN WORKSHOP OFFICIALLY BACK UNDER TUMYETO!
A few days ago, the official Instagram account of Alien Workshop seemed to be revived. This comes in contrast with the brand's announcement that they were going under earlier last year. Riders like Dylan Rieder were supposedly dropped due to bad negotiations and business decisions by the top chiefs of the company. It was rumored that long time Alien Rob Dyrdek had been supplementing the failing company with money from his own pocket. The brand's disappearance in 2014 could have been a going out for business scheme in order to start fresh with a new distributor, Tumyeto.
Last night, the workshop announced its return and new distribution under the Tumyeto collective. This is a big deal for the company as Tumyeto manages many other successful board brands like Toy Machine and Foundation.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcHrwCIck1I
The video clip was posted on Alien's Youtube account on December 31st, maybe signifying a new year and a new chance for the brand. The video clip features images that are expected of the mysterious board brand.

THE GOLD GOONS ARE COMING!

LIL WAYNE IN THRASHER?
Its no doubt that Weezy can squeeze his way into just about every industry. Wayne has been skating for a few years now and shows no sign of quitting as he has been seen hitting the streets with Greg Lutka and even cruising around Biebel's park with the Crailtap crew. The rapper has gained some type of notoriety in the industry with his creation of SPECTRE FOOTWEAR, despite its little success. The February 2014 Thrasher features Lil Wayne doing what appears to be a fakie crook stall for a Grizzly griptape ad. Grizzly griptape owner Torey Pudwill seems to be good friends with Weezy, putting him on the team and giving him an ad before many other notable riders. Contrary to popular opinion, Wayne appears to be here to stay in the skate industry as one of the top contenders for the 2014 SOTY award has his back.

SUPRA FOOTWEAR BEING SUED?
Long Beach native and long time Supra rider Terry Kennedy posted the following on his Instagram just a few hours ago.
Terry parted ways with Supra Footwear around September of 2013. Since then, he's been seen skating a variety of different brand's shoes. In his time between sponsors he has posted pictures of boxes from Nike and even Etnies on his Instagram. In the picture above, Terry claims he is auditing the financial practices of Supra. More than likely, he is upset with his take on royalties. His frustration may stem from the fact that Supra is still selling his most popular shoe royalty free (previously named "The TK Stack") as simply "The Stack 2". Terry seems to be fairly confident his lawyer will yield returns in this audit as he sarcastically wishes the brand a Happy New Year. In addition to TK, two of the brand's fan favorites, Kevin Romar and Nick Tucker, have also recently called it quits. Nick is most likely following in the ways of his new mentor, Paul Rodriguez, and joining the Nike team. As for Romar, only time will tell. 2015 seems like another mysterious year regarding sponsors in the skate world.

PLAN B "TRUE" REVIEW
Plan B True, one of the most anticipated videos of the last decade, did not disappoint. The iconic brand's newest full length graced the big screen of the Montalban Theater in Hollywood on November 23rd, 2014. A little over a week later the video finally surfaced on Itunes on December 2nd. With a team roster as deep as any and multiple legendary fullengths under its belt, the Plan B brand was forced to live up to tremendous expectations.
The Plan B team significantly changed since their videos from the 90's and even from the more recent SuperFuture Promo video from 2008. The loss of legendary riders like Paul Rodriguez and Jereme Rogers had many questioning if the video would ever show. Since the SuperFuture promo Plan B has added the talents of Chris Joslin, Trevor McClung, and Felipe Gustavo to its roster. This video most definitely lived up to its hype.
Soundtrack from http://www.skatevideosite.com/skatevideos/plan-b-true/soundtrack
Chris Joslin #1 - Fuck Buttons - Brainfreeze |
Chris Joslin #2 - Heart - Barracuda |
Intro - Holy Fuck - Tone Bank Jungle |
Felipe Gustavo - Rick Ross - Pirates |
Pat Duffy - Fidlar - Cheap Beer |
Scott Decenzo - Jethro Tull - Locomotive Breath |
Trevor McClung - Goat - Gathering of Ancient Tribes |
Ryan Sheckler - Hanni El Khatib - Pay No Mind |
Torey Pudwill - The Rolling Stones - You Can't Always Get What You Want |
Credits - Ofege - It's Not Easy |
The video starts off with a tribute to the late Mike "MT" Ternasky. It shows a clip from November 23, 1991 (exactly 23 years before True came out) featuring a younger Pat Duffy skating an 11 stair handrail in the rain. Mike is seen as a motivating factor in this clip, gladly filming in the bad weather and risking his camera equipment. Pat Duffy then backside lipslides the rail twice for the Questionable video (1991). This clip shows the camaraderie of the duo and displays Mike's willingness to get the job done. This clips seemed a good fit for the video as it appeals to Plan B's original fans during the 90's and shows what they are about as a brand. RIP Mike Ternasky.
Chris Joslin- In arguably the greatest introduction to the team video part of all time, Chris Joslin shows himself as a new breed of skateboarder. Despite previous clips in Bones' "New Ground" and a full part in the homie video "Ground Control", Joslin was still relatively unknown for a Southern California skateboarder of this caliber prior to this epic part. Chris comes off as the skaterat of skaterats in the intro clip as he breaks his board attempting to nollie heelflip one of San Francisco's biggest gaps while nursing a broken finger. Viewers knew his part would be heavy as he ends his first line with a ghetto bird down 11stairs at (3:52). Joslin shows us he can do just about every flip trick down a set of stairs as he bigspins Hollywood 16 just a few clips into his part. Shortly after, Chris' part changes pace as he switches from skating to the intrumental "Brainfreeze" to "Barracuda". The California native's part gets heated quick as he throws a nollie hardflip down the famous 6 block (6:39). Chris shows us he's the real deal as he does a nollie backside flip on a 7 flat 3 double set going at least 20 miles per hour (7:03). Just 30 seconds later Chris stomps one of the best tricks ever done on the famous Clipper hubba in San Francisco, nollie flip frontside 5050 (7:32). A minute later Chris does a rarely seen trick on another famous spot, inward heelflip Lincoln 14 (8:24). Joslin's last three bangers include bigspin on from on top of the Macba ledge to the street, hardflip 18, and 360 flip the UC Davis gap. (8:58-9:20). Chris proves that at only 18 he can ride with the best, tre flipping a gap that Andrew Reynolds kickflipped as his ender in Emerica's "Stay Gold" (2010). On top of a momentous amount of bangers, Chris apparently filmed his entire part in less than a year's time and with a partially torn ACL. Chris' part is certainly an introduction of whats to come from him in the skateboarding world. Following Ryan Sheckler's footsteps and joining Etnies' team, Chris Joslin's future looks exceptionally bright.
Felipe Gustavo- After a short intro from the rest of the Plan B team, Tampa Am 2007 winner Felipe Gustavo skates for "True". Getting offers from Plan B before he could even speak English, Felipe blossomed under the brand. The DC rider proves he is one of the most technical skateboarders on the planet currently with a wide variety of flip-in flip-out variations. Among the most impressive are nollie tre flip backside 5-0 grind and fakie tre flip fakie backside nosegrind; mirror images (12:53-13:02). The newest professional on the Plan B team demonstrates his perfect switch frontside flips, doing one intro a 5-0 grind on a full size picnic table (14:15). Felipe whips out a barrage of Chinese ledge lines, one of which he ends with a nollie bigheel fakie nosegrind (15:24). Felipe then whips out an NBD with a switch flip frontside tailslide on a classic handrail (15:40). The Brazilian ends his part in good fashion with a tre flip crooked grind on a picnic table (The NAC). Felipe has turned into one of Plan B's heavy hitters due to his persistence and ledge mastery.
Pat Duffy- Pat Duffy's begins his part with a clip of himself and Plan B filmer Eric Bragg being chased out of a spot by locals. Pat is sure to grab a line with a clean backside wallride before exiting (16:33). Just weeks shy of his 40th birthday, Pat proves he can still shred with the best. Among other notable tricks is a backside smith grind to backside tailslide on a steep bank (17:22). On a fun, wavy kicker spot in China, Pat blasts a clean frontside heelflip (17:59). He ends his part with a scary frontside wallride. Its refreshing to see a part from Pat as he is the only original member of the Plan B roster that was willing to use his footage for "True". Pat has come a long way and shows no sign of slowing down.
Scott Decenzo- The younger brother of the Decenzo family shows his talents in this epic part. Scott claims fourth part in the video, landing a switch frontside boardslide frontside shove out on a rail with knobs (20:00). Scott whips out a switch frontside hurricane on a hubba for his next trick, a banger to say the least (20:05). Scott's unique style and trick selection shows as he does a backside smith grind inward heelflip out on a picnic table (20:54). Later Scott does a switch gap to backside smith grind with ease on a tall pier ledge (21:32). In classic Barcelona ledge style, Scott does a backside 180 switch frontside crook fakie heelflip out, an NBD (22:21). In the next clip Scott does a feeble grind frontside flip out on a mellow handrail. The younger Decenzo ends his part with a massive nollie noseblunt on a large Barcelona hubba. Scott will most likely be Plan B's next professional as he has been committed to the team since the SuperFuture days and shows an epic proportion of progression.
Trevor McClung- This McClung brother holds true to their family's skate abilities and throws down a wild variety of tricks. In a quick two trick ledge line, Trevor lands a switch frontside nosegrind half cab flip out in quick foot fashion. (24:11). Later on the famous Uni 8 rail, the McClung brother does fakie ollie to switch frontside feeble grind. Trevor shows he can skate anything, doing feeble to backside noseblunt on a rusty flatbar in a line (25:26). Shortly after, Trevor does one of the biggest switch backside 180s, off a ledge intro a street with traffic. He shows off his switch skills as he ends a line with switch backside flip alley-oop style over a handrail (26:04). At (26:39) Trevor McClung does one of the best crooked grinds of all time, grinding the rarely skated "S" rail in China all the way to the flat. Coming back to California, Trevor ends his part with a picture perfect switch backside flip down a 5 flat 5 flat 5 triple set. Despite being one of the newest additions to the Plan B roster, Trevor shows he is no novice to the game.
Ryan Sheckler- Ryan starts off his part with one of the gnarliest drop-ins of all time (27:54). Neither the wind or the hole in the skinny quarterpipe could phase him. The ex-MTV star came through with something to prove in his part. Besides his SuperFuture promo video, Sheckler hadn't had a full part since Oakley's "Our Life" in 2006. Among Ryan's best tricks in his part is a perfect half cab flip down a gap in classic Sheckler fashion. Ryan shows us he can skate much more than just stairs as he does a fakie manual fakie flip on a high Chinese manual pad (29:04). Sheckler demonstrates his progression as he backside tailslides a rail that he boardslid as a grom in Almost's "Round Three"(29:23). After fakie hardflipping the Bricktown stairs (30:11), Ryan sets up cruiser wheels and blasts out of a bank for one of the highest back tails of all time (30:17). Shortly after, Ryan reminds everyone of his kickflip expertise as he floats one down a massive 6 block (30:50). Sheckler clinches his second to last part with a proper backside 360 off a bump over a rail and over a gap (31:04). Ryan's part reigns my favorite in the video as he skates clean and with tricks that he has never done in any of his previous parts. He shakes all the doubters who claimed that his television antics were detrimental to his skating.
Torey Pudwill- The ledge master himself guns for SOTY in this part of parts. The Grizzly griptape owner proves no one can stop him as he does a backside flip to switch frontside crooks on a colorful ledge that he has frequented before (32:39). Torey shows he still has NBDs to do as he does nosegrind nollie flip to frontside lipslide on a flatbar (33:21). The king of wax continues his slaughter with a backside smith frontside flip out on a Chinese bank to ledge (35:36). Despite pedestrian interference, Torey continues his annihilation of Chinese marble, ending a line with a nollie backside flip to switch frontside crooks (36:33). A little after, Torey pays homage to his late friend Lewis Marnell as the Australian makes a cameo with a kickflip to lipslide on a gap to ledge (37:28). After backside smith grinding up a Canadian handrail (37:38), Torey marks off another NBD with a backside lipslide kickflip backnoseblunt to fakie (37:50). Pudwill's ability to combo just about every trick has greatly increased his fan base. In the next clip,Torey brings a flatbar trick to a mellow handrail as he does a backside smith grind varial heelflip out (37:53). After a barrage of other tricks Torey solitifies his ender part with a backside 360 kickflip over a famous street gap that he skated back in Transworld's "Hallelujah" (38:25). Torey's part seems like an instant classic as he skates to a song as passionate as his skating. Torey definitiely deserved this ending part in Plan B's "True".
Overall Plan B's "True" is an excellent video. The HD filming from Eric Bragg and the team's deep roster really contributed to the film's success. Despite the heavy hammers, speculation still remains about Sheckler at El Toro and the lack of footage from the older riders. In the credits Ryan is seen sticking backside flip down the legendary 20 set, but barely clipping the last stair. In an interview with Phelper from early 2010 Ryan claimed he landed the trick. I speculate thart his deliberate lie was to give himself the motivation and push to actually go to the stair set and throw down. Regarding the older riders, PJ Ladd, Danny Way, and Colin McKay all did not have parts in this video. Colin claims that him and Danny are dropping parts in the near future. These two most likely did not want their parts to be in "True" in order to let the younger riders shine. Plan B's "True" marks another chapter in the legacy of the historic brand, focusing on the younger riders and their quest to the top of the skate world.
